Across the evaluation period, (Jun-23-Jul-24), almost ~£20M of in-flight purchases using Mastercard cards were declined post release of the merchandise. Whilst reported fraud is less than 1bp, these declines constitute a significant direct loss to airlines representing ~4% of the total in-flight sales. Considering that these metrics only contain UK Mastercard issued cards, the extent of losses will be more severe across the entire payment ecosystem.
